Home Sweet Home

After reading a post by my friend who just landed in Denmark (look to the right side, under "My blog list" and click on "Live is Life" for the blog i'm taking about)  for a six month stay and seeing her pictures of her new humble abode, I realized that I hadn't taken any of you through the tour of my home yet! How very rude of me.

Please come in (the little plaque on the left side reads "Chitose", my host family's name).

Don't forget to take your shoes off before stepping into the house, and here; have some nice warm slippers to wear! (all those boots off to the side are mine XD)
If you need to use the bathroom, don't be shy. Those buttons are for your comfort, nothing to be scared of!

See? Clearly you can tell which one flushes the toilet.
(actually none of them do, this particular toilet flushes itself. No joke).
You can either take a seat on the comfty love seat and enjoy a nice CNN program (what? it's the only channel in English and I like to watch it when no one else is around...)

Or you can sit at the dinning table (I bought that Mickey Mouse thing at Dinsey Sea. It's shaped like a "Daruma"( link to definition here) and is full of Sembe (Japanese rice crackers)
Our wonderfully long and narrow kitchen (My host mom would freak if she knew I was posting a picture of this; but it's not dirty, just cluttered). That black box/microwave looking thing is also the oven. Takes about twice as long to bake anything in it, but bakes things none-the-less.

At the end of the kitchen you will find our laundry room (just a washer, Japanese people use hangers like that blue one to hang their laundry outside. Very inconvenient when it rains).
If you're cold I'll turn on our little gas heater (actually heats up this whole part of the house very well).

Or if you're hot we'll turn on the air conditioner (one of these in every bedroom and it also doubles as a heater)
Or perhaps you would like a bath? But don't forget that you must wash  with the shower while looking at your flabby/wrinkly/other unflattering adjective self in the mirror before actually entering the bathtub. Don't want to dirty the water with your filth because other people want to use it as well (which means don't drain the water either!). There is a nice little white seat for you to sit on even, if you are tired!
Now that you're all clean, lets enjoy the backyard!
(during non-winter months they have one of those green ivy type plants that supposedly keep your house cool by blocking out the sun, as well as some vegetables).

We'll hang your wet clothes out here on the balcony (thank god for good weather!).
And last but not least my bedroom!

My host mother made all the quilts on the walls, including the Mickey/Minnie Mouse pair.

Where I do all my dirty work (umm...yeah).

Hope you enjoyed the tour! Don't be shy now and come along again anytime you want!

PEACE OUTSIDE
Jamie
